2004-11-29 00:00

On November 29, 2004, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met with Lao President Khamtay Siphandone and the two sides held cordial talks.

Khamtay highly commented on the Laos-China traditional friendship and friendly cooperative ties. He said that China is Laos' sincere friend. Over the years China has offered Laos precious support and played an important role in its efforts to develop economy, eradicate poverty and improve people's living standard. Premier Wen's visit to Laos and attending of a series of meetings between leaders of ASEAN (Association of South East Asian), China, Japan and the ROK are an encouragement to Laos. Khamtay thanked China for offering assistance to the meeting. He noted that during Premier Wen's visit to Laos, both sides reached a wide range of important consensuses that Laos will earnestly implement and he believed the future relationship between Laos and China will be much better.

Wen said that in recent years, China-Laos relations of good-neighborliness and friendly cooperation have enjoyed all-round and in-depth development and the two countries trust each other on the political front, conduct sincere cooperation on the economic front and support each other in international and regional affairs. We are satisfied with the development of bilateral ties. The Chinese government attaches great importance to the friendly cooperative ties with Laos and sticks to the direction for development of bilateral ties defined in the China-Laos Joint Statement 2000, namely ''developing the all-round cooperative relationship of long-term stability, good-neighborly friendship and mutual trust". We would like to work along with Laos to continuously consolidate and develop bilateral ties through down-to-earth efforts, so as to bring tangible benefits to both peoples.
