A Brief Introduction on the Commissioner's Office of the Foreign Ministry in Macao

When China resumed its exercise of sovereignty over Macao on December 20, 1999, the Foreign Ministry established its Commissioner's Office in MSAR. The Commissioner's Office is an agency that handles foreign affairs related to MSAR which fall under the purview of the Central People's Government and serves as a channel between the Government of MSAR and the Central People's Government over such affairs. The functions of the Office include: handling and assisting the Government of MSAR to handle foreign affairs related to Macao, coordinating over matters concerning the establishment of consular offices by other countries in MSAR or other official and semi-official organizations and dealing with relevant consular affairs, and coordinating over matters relating to international organizations, international conferences, international conventions and law and other foreign policy issues concerning Macao.

The Commissioner's Office has four departments: office of Foreign Policy Study, Department of Miscellaneous Affairs, Department of Consular Affairs and General Office, which are in actual charge of the above-mentioned affairs. Besides Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner, there are officials working in the four departments.
