Ambassador Lyu Jian Visits Wat Suthiwararam School

On January 7, Ambassador Lyu Jian paid a special visit to Wat Suthiwararam School to express appreciation and thanks to the 13 students who rescued of a Chinese citizen, issuing certificates to the students. Mr. Boonrak, Secretary-General of the Primary Education Committee of the Ministry of Education of Thailand, Dr. Rattima, Director of the Second District of the middle school division, Mr.Aree, Principal of Wat Suthiwararam School, Dr. Vichit Lolurlert, Chairman of the Thai-Chinese Teachers Association, and representatives of the School Associations as well as more than 1,000 teachers and students of the school participated. Ms. Song Ruoyun, First Secretary of Education Affairs of Embassy attended the event.

In his speech, Ambassador Lyu praised the kindness of those students showing by willing to help others, and encouraged them to seize the opportunities of the times, study hard, pay attention to major events of the world and excellent both in conduct and academic performance. Ambassador Lyu pointed out that the historical trend of globalization is irreversible. The rapid development of science and technology and the interconnected infrastructure make humans more closely linked and become a community with a shared future for mankind. We should strengthen cooperation, meet common challenges and create a better future. China and Thailand are friendly neighbors. The two peoples are like one family. The cooperation in various fields has great potential and bright prospects. Ambassador Lyu encouraged students to learn Chinese, understand Chinese culture and contribute to the pass on China-Thailand friendship from generation to generation.

Ambassador Lyu announced that the Chinese Embassy in Thailand set up “Chinese Language and Cultural Learning Grants” in the school to support Chinese language teaching and encourage students to visit and study in China. Ambassador Lyu also provided books, DVDs and other learning materials to the school’s Chinese classroom.

Secretary-General Mr.Boonrak and Principal Dr.Aree said that they were proud of the students using Chinese language to help a Chinese citizen and noticed by the Ambassador Lyu and people from both Thailand and China. The Thai side will continue to encourage students to carry forward the spirit of helping others and learn Chinese language and culture in the future. They hope to expand cooperation with the Embassy in the fields of Chinese language teaching and cultural exchanges.

Ambassador Lyu was then invited to inspect the Chinese, enjoy Chinese and Thai music performed by the school band, and talked with teachers and students. When he heard some students saying that it was not easy to learn Chinese, Ambassador Lyu quoted Chairman Mao Zedong’s poem “Nothing is difficult to the man who will try” to encourage students to climb to the top of knowledge and life.

Wat Suthiwararam School was founded in 1911. It is one of the most famous public boy’s schools in Thailand. On December 17, 2018, 13 students from the school met a Chinese citizen who wanted to commit suicide on the street of Bangkok. The students communicated with him in Chinese and succeeded in rescuing him. At present, the Chinese citizen has returned home smoothly.
