Ambassador Lyu Jian Met with Thai Education Minister Thirakiat

  On January 12, Ambassador Lyu Jian met with Thai Education Minister Thirakiat Charoensetthasilp at the Ministry of Education.

  Ambassador Lyu thanked the Ministry of Education of Thailand, especially Minister Thirakiat, for his active support to education cooperation between China and Thailand and to the work of the Chinese Embassy over the years, and spoke highly of the important progress made by the two countries in education cooperation. In 2017, both the number of Thai students studying in China and the number of Chinese students studying in Thailand have reached 2,2000, and China has sent the largest amount of volunteer Chinese teachers to Thailand. At present, since both China and Thailand are in a new stage of economic transformation and upgrading, strengthening education and personnel exchanges and cooperation is an inevitable requirement for deepening bilateral relations. Together with Thailand, China is ready to enhance education cooperation and provide talent support for the development of both countries.

  Minister Thirakiat welcomed Ambassador Lyu to Thailand to assume his post. He said that Prime Minister Prayut had good talks with Premier Li Keqiang during the just-concluded 2nd Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Leaders' Meeting. Both parties believe that cooperation between the two countries in various fields has enjoyed good momentum and there is great potential for cooperation in fields such as higher education and vocational education. Thailand would like to draw upon China's experience in innovation-driven development, and the Thai Ministry of Education will fully support the two countries in deepening education cooperation and further aligning development strategies.
