Ambassador Lyu Jian Visited Councilor Surayud of the Privy Council of Thailand
2017/11/16

On November 15, Ambassador Lyu Jian paid a visit to General Surayud Chulanont, Councilor of the Privy Council of Thailand at the Privy Council.

Ambassador Lyu said that China-Thailand friendship has a long history and pragmatic cooperation in various fields has achieved fruitful results. China highly appreciated the Thai Royal Family’s long-standing commitment to and support for the friendship between China and Thailand. President Xi's special envoy and Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli's visit to Thailand for Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s funeral last month and cordial greetings with King Vajiralongkorn fully reflected that China attaches great importance to the Thai Royal Family and China-Thailand relations. In September, during Prime Minister Prayuth’s attendance at the Dialogue of Emerging Market and Developing Countries in Xiamen upon invitation, President Xi Jinping held fruitful talks with him and jointly outlined the blueprint for the future development of bilateral relations. China is ready to work with Thailand to implement the consensus reached by the two leaders and continuously enrich the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Thailand with new concepts of the times. It is believed that Councilor Surayud will, as always, care for and support the development of the friendly bilateral relations.

Ambassador Lyu said that the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) had concluded successfully, during which General Secretary Xi Jinping summed up in his report the great achievements of China's development in the past five years, outlined the grand blueprint for China's development in the next 30 years and proposed a series of new ideas, new concepts, new strategies and measures for state governance and administration. Thailand is an important country along the Belt and Road, and China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Thailand and work together to implement the Belt and a Road initiative for the benefits of the two countries and people in the region.

Councilor Surayud warmly welcomed Ambassador Lyu to Thailand to assume his post, thanked China for giving the Thai Royal Family high-standard and thoughtful receptions when they visited China, and thanked Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli for attending Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s funeral as the special envoy of President Xi Jinping. Surayud said, China is one of Thailand's friendly neighboring countries, and the continuous development of Thailand-China relations is in the interests of not only people of the two countries, but also stability and prosperity of the region. Thailand's development plans such as Thailand 4.0 and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) are highly compatible with the Belt and Road initiative. Therefore, both sides can further strengthen strategic complementarity and work together to create a new pattern of regional inter-connectivity so as to bring real benefits to people in the region. He noted that he would continue to promote Thailand-China relations and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.

Councilor Surayud warmly congratulated China on the success of the 19th National Congress of the CPC, highly praised the great achievements of China's development, and expressed his belief that under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, the CPC will lead the Chinese people toward more brilliant achievements in development.
