Ambassador Lyu Jian Gave Introduction on Belt and Road at NLA Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs
2017/10/12

On October 11, Ambassador Lyu Jian was invited to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) of Thailand, where he talked to Chairperson Philaipan Sombatsiri and all the committee members about the Belt and Road initiative and answered questions.

With detailed data and abundant examples, Ambassador Lyu presented a comprehensive picture of the Belt and Road initiative from five aspects, including motivation, contents, latest progress, benefits for ASEAN and Thailand, and future cooperation between China and Thailand in this regard. Ambassador Lyu stressed that the Belt and Road initiative is an open and inclusive cooperation platform, an interactive development initiative featuring extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, and a Chinese program to promote global peace, cooperation, and common development. The fruitful results of the initiative since its inception four years ago have indicated that the Belt and Road initiative conforms to the trend of the times, adapts to the law of development, and serves the interests of people from different countries.

Ambassador Lyu noted that ASEAN countries have been important partners and beneficiaries of the Belt and Road construction. As a founding member and the second largest economy of ASEAN, Thailand can also play an important role in the Belt and Road cooperation and benefit in the long run. Going forward, China and Thailand should continue to maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen policy communication, promote people-to-people exchanges driven by concrete projects to achieve new results in the Belt and Road cooperation and bring more benefits to the two peoples.

Chairman Philaipan and all members of the Committee thanked Ambassador Lyu for his in-depth introduction which enabled them to have a comprehensive understanding of the Belt and Road initiative, and expressed their readiness to strengthen cooperation with China and enhance the complementarity of Thailand's development strategies with the Belt and Road initiative.
