2019/08/27

On August 26, Ambassador Lyu Jian met with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Jurin Laksanavisit at the Government House to exchange views on China-Thailand economic cooperation and trade.

Ambassador Lyu congratulated Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Jurin on his assumption of the post. He said that China is ready to work with the new government of Thailand to synergize the Belt and Road Initiative with the "Eastern Economic Corridor" (EEC), enhance bilateral economic cooperation and trade, and make sure that pragmatic cooperation between the two countries could bring more benefits to the two peoples. China supports Thailand's role as the rotating chair of ASEAN and the efforts to complete the "Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership" (RCEP) negotiations within this year. Facing the resurgence of trade protectionism and unilateralism, China and Thailand should strengthen cooperation, jointly safeguard the multilateral trading system with WTO as its core and rules as its basis, and create a more open, inclusive, just and fair world economy.

Deputy Prime Minister Jurin said that China is an important partner of Thailand. Based on a solid foundation, economic cooperation between the two countries enjoys great potential for development. The new Thai government is willing to work with China to deepen the traditional economic cooperation and trade between the two countries, expand cooperation in agricultural products and other fields, and jointly promote the completion of RCEP negotiations within this year.
