Ambassador Lyu Jian Attended Inauguration of Fortieth Executive Committee of Tio Chew Association of Thailand

On the morning of March 8, Ambassador Lyu Jian was invited to the inauguration of the fortieth Executive Committee of the Tio Chew Association of Thailand. The chairman of the Tio Chew Association, Dr. Sangchai Sotthavarakul, and over 300 representatives from the Nine Communities and Ten Associations attended the event.

Ambassador Lyu expressed his congratulations to Dr. Sangchai Sotthavarakul, member of the fortieth Executive Committee and re-elected chairman of the Association, and sent sincere greetings and New Year wishes to the attendees. Ambassador Lyu fully affirmed the positive role played by the Tio Chew Association in creating bond between overseas Chinese, carrying forward Chinese culture and promoting exchanges between China and Thailand, and expressed appreciation for its support to the Embassy for years.

Ambassador Lyu said that the relationship between China and Thailand faces a historic opportunity. 2018 kicks off efforts to implement the decisions of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and marks the 40th anniversary of reform and opening up. It is a crucial year to secure a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and implement the “13th Five-Year plan”. The first session of the Thirteenth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the first session of the National People's Congress (NPC) are being held in Beijing. Major reform measures will be determined in the form of law. China’s reform is unprecedented, and new patterns of all-round opening up with the "Belt and Road" initiative as the focus of cooperation will be gradually formed. Thailand and China see eye to eye in terms of development ideas, building an innovation-driven country, and developing an open economy at a higher level. The two sides have great potential for cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, science and technology, tourism and education.

Ambassador Lyu hoped that the Tio Chew Association could seize the historic opportunity, give full play to its unique advantages and push forward the relationship between China and Thailand in three aspects. The first is to build a harmonious overseas Chinese society. The second is to mobilize resourses of overseas Chinese to promote exchanges and cooperation between China and Thailand in various fields. The third is to carry forward the Chinese culture and promote the great cause of China's peaceful reunification.

The chairman of the Tio Chew Association, Dr. Sangchai Sotthavarakul, thanked Ambassador Lyu for his attendance, and expressed willingness to follow the development of China, support the "Belt and Road" initiative and China’s peaceful reunification, and contribute to the Sino-Thai friendship and economic cooperation and trade.
