Counselor Yang Yang Attended Seminar on "Thailand-China Business Outlook 2018"

  On behalf of Ambassador Lyu Jian, Yang Yang, Counselor for Political Affairs of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, attended the seminar on "Thailand-China Business Outlook 2018" held by the Thai-Chinese Journalists Association on February 28. Thai Minister of Commerce Sontirat Sontijirawong delivered a keynote speech at the seminar. More than 120 business, academic and media representatives were present.

  Minister Sontirat said that the world today is changing rapidly. Thailand should keep pace with the times, change its existing mode of production, vigorously develop its advantageous industries and increase the level of science and technology in production. With its unique geographical location, Thailand is determined to play an important role in building the "Belt and Road" initiated by China, and that the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) will also facilitate greatly interconnection and business activities in the region. Thailand should actively participate in the "Made in China" industrial chain and develop hand in hand with China .

  Counselor Yang Yang elaborated on the prospect of China's economic development and China-Thailand economic cooperation and trade. She stated that the 19th CPC National Congress pointed out the direction for China's development. China will stick fast to the basic policy of reform and opening up and focus on high-quality growth. Since there is great potential for economic cooperation and trade between China and Thailand, both sides should further increase complementarity of their development strategies and strengthen cooperation in major projects, carry out mutually beneficial cooperation at higher-level and with higher-quality, further explore respective market potentials and create new consumption hot spots. The first China International Import Expo (CIIE) to be held in Shanghai in November this year is a major measure taken by the Chinese government to open up its market to the world. Thai friends are invited to participate in the Expo to promote high-class Thai goods and services to China and the rest of the world.

  Chinese and Thai business elites, experts and acdemics conducted in-depth discussion on a lot of issues including the potential areas of economic cooperation and trade between the two countries and how to tap the Chinese market.
