Ambassador Lyu Jian Paid Courtesy Call on Prime Minister Prayut

  On December 20, Ambassador Lyu Jian paid a courtesy call on Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, at the Prime Minister Government House.

  Ambassador Lyu said that since Prime Minister Prayut took office, he has been active in promoting domestic reforms. He formulated the 20-Year National Strategy, put forward development plans including "Thailand 4.0" and "Eastern Economic Corridor", and made notable achievements in maintaining political stability, improving economic development and promoting social harmony. China applauded that. At present, both China and Thailand are in a crucial period of and face important opportunities for development. In September this year, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Prayut met in Xiamen. They reached important consensus and set the stage for the future development of bilateral relations. Going forward, the two sides are to enhance the complementarity of their development strategies and carry out mutually beneficial and pragmatic cooperation at a higher level and with higher quality. The groundbreaking ceremony for the first-phase of China-Thailand railway project will be held tomorrow and Prime Minister Prayut will attend the ceremony in person, which shows that the Thai side attaches great importance to the project. The Opening Ceremony of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Innovation Cooperation Center (Bangkok) was held not long ago. It is the first overseas organization established by the CAS with technology transfer as its main target. It is believed that the Center will surely bring scientific and technological cooperation between China and Thailand to a new level. China attaches importance to Thailand’s role in Lancang-Mekong Cooperation and China-ASEAN cooperation, and is willing to work with Thailand to make new and greater contribution to the common development of the region.

  Ambassador Lyu said that in October, the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held successfully, during which a series of new ideas, new thoughts and new strategies were put forward and a grand blueprint for the development of China in the coming period was drawn. China would like to strengthen experience exchange in state governance and administration with Thailand to achieve common progress.

  Prime Minister Prayut warmly congratulated China on the success of the 19th CPC National Congress, praised China for its achievements in development, and expressed willingness to exchange views with China on state governance and administration and draw upon China’s useful experience in poverty alleviation and reduction. Prime Minister Prayut said that Thailand attaches great importance to developing friendly relations with China, always adheres to the one-China policy, actively supports the “Belt and Road" initiative and "Made in China 2025", and is ready to further increase practical cooperation with China in the fields of business, tourism, trade in agricultural product, vocational training, and scientific and technological innovation. Thailand welcomes more Chinese enterprises to participate in the "Eastern Economic Corridor" construction, and is ready to make joint efforts with China to continuously push forward China-ASEAN relations and Lancang-Mekong Cooperation.
