As developing countries, both China and Thailand are in a crucial period in their development and face the common challenges of economic restructuring and upgrading and realizing modernization. Deepening cooperation in scientific and technological innovation is crucial for both countries in further elevating pragmatic cooperation and jointly meeting development challenges. Thailand is an ideal place for China to cooperate in terms of scientific and technological innovation with ASEAN and other regional countries, and the establishment of the CAS Innovation Cooperation Center (Bangkok) is just the embodiment of the important consensus reached by the two leaders and signifies that China-Thailand cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative has started a new journey.

Minister Suvit warmly congratulated the opening of the center, saying that the Thai Royal Family and the government attach great importance to carrying out scientific and technological cooperation with China. He believed that driven by scientific and technological innovation, the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and "Thailand 4.0" will achieve even greater development. Thailand highly appreciates China's accomplishments in its rapid development of science and technology and will further deepen cooperation in scientific and technological innovation with Chinese scientific research institutes including the Chinese Academy of Sciences on the basis of existing good cooperation, and will further strengthen cooperation in science and technology under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, contributing to Thailand's economic and social development.

In implementing the Belt and Road Initiative, the Chinese Academy of Sciences starts the Action Plan for Jointly Promoting International Sci-Tech Cooperation Along the Belt and Road. As a non-profit overseas organization promoting sci-tech cooperation and commercialization, as well as the first innovation cooperation platform deeply integrated into ASEAN economies, the Innovation Cooperation Center (Bangkok) will effectively encourage Chinese innovation enterprises to come to Southeast Asia to build a China-ASEAN community of innovation. 2018 is the China-ASEAN Year of Innovation, we hope that China and Thailand would work together to build the Center into an excellent international platform for win-win and all-win cooperation.
