2017/12/02

On December 1, Ambassador Lyu Jian paid a courtesy call on General Prawit Wongsuwan, First Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Thailand, at the Ministry of Defense.

Ambassador Lyu highly appreciated Deputy Prime Minister Prawit's long-term commitment to the friendly relations between China and Thailand and his great contributions to deepening political mutual trust and promoting exchanges and cooperation between the two militaries. Ambassador Lyu said that under the support and guidance of the leaders of the two countries, the relations between China and Thailand have made great strides. At present, both countries are facing challenges such as transformation and upgrading of economic structure and transcendence of "middle-income trap". The Belt and Road initiative proposed by China is highly compatible with the development plan of Thailand such as the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and Thailand 4.0, therefore, cooperation between the two countries enjoys great potential in the future. Not long ago, the Communist Party of China successfully held its 19th National Congress, during which General Secretary Xi Jinping said in his report that China will continue to uphold its strategy of opening up and forge a new form of international relations featuring mutual respect, fairness, justice, and win-win cooperation, so as to establish a community with shared future for mankind. China is ready to work with Thailand to push for greater development of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Thailand.

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit warmly welcomed Ambassador Lyu to Thailand to assume his post and congratulated the Communist Party of China (CPC) on the success of the 19th National Congress. Deputy Prime Minister Prawit said that the friendship between Thailand and China enjoys popular support. The two countries and the two militaries maintain frequent high-level exchanges, and both sides have conducted sound cooperation in military industry and trade, as well as joint military exercises. Thailand is ready to enhance strategic complementarity with China, cooperatively implement the Belt and Road initiative, deepen friendly exchanges and cooperation in areas such as defense, security and law enforcement, and jointly bring the bilateral relations to a new level.
